+ / : The Pool in Between

This project aims to understand the structural and programmatic relationship of two universal spaces: the vertical and the horizontal. It took as precedent previous studies of Louis Sullivan’s and Mies van der Rohe’s positions towards these typologies, specifically in the way they were present in the city of Chicago.

The final proposal was deployed in the Federal Center in Downtown Chicago. It merged two programs that were inherently horizontal and vertical, both spatially and conceptually: an office building and a pool complex.
